Hungary competed 15 times on the World Championship; never won a medal, only once (in Japan in 1997) reached the semi-finals.
Still, Hungarians have high ratings in the worlds’ handball which contributes good clubs, but especially women's handball, which unlike the men's, winning more and more than ever. To the World Championship in Croatia Hungary launched through a European qualifications play off, in which was better than Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Hungary will always leave a good impression at the great competition; win some of the favourites, but it always missing the last step to the medals. It could not solve it even Laszlo Skalitzky, but has managed to rejuvenate the team and with more optimism look at the future.
Hungary star No. 1 is Nenad Puljezevic, former Yugoslav national team member, great goalkeeper who can defeat every opponent. In the brothers Ivanczik, Gergo and Tamas, they found an excellent young wings, and in the playmaker Gabor Csarsar the future player. Mladost from Vesprema, which is lead by Putics and Gulyas, is a good reason for optimism more, just as the funnel Laszlo Nagy from Barcelona. Heavy league is not trump of Hungarians, but strong Veszprem and Szeged on the European club scene certainly are.
