ez érdekes With nothing left to play for other than third place, the New York Yankees will spend the final two weeks of the season assessing their roster, preparing for what promises to be a wild winter. With more than $80 million ready to come off the payroll, the Bombers will have some major decisions to make in the coming months. Jason Giambi, Ivan Rodriguez and Carl Pavano won't return after their contracts expire, while Mike Mussina and/or Andy Pettitte could return to bolster a rotation that will get Chien-Ming Wang back and might add a big-name free agent or two such as CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett or Ben Sheets. One of the biggest in-house decisions this offseason will be what to do with Bobby Abreu, who has been a consistent contributor since the Yankees acquired him in a deal at the trade deadline two years ago. Abreu is about to wrap up another solid season, entering the final 16 games with a .296 average, 16 home runs, 87 RBI, 89 runs scored and a .371 on-base percentage. More importantly, he's been one of the few constants in a lineup that has been ravaged by injuries throughout the year, playing in 142 of the first 146 games. "I really like it here; I feel comfortable over here and I'm hoping to come back," Abreu said. "They're going to make the moves they have to make to build a better team. I want to be a part of that." |
