Kabul – June 11, 2007 – There are two million widows in Afghanistan and they are leading a miserable life. Hundreds of thousands of Afghanis have been killed in the decade-long heroic struggle against Soviet invasion as well as in the subsequent civil war and the US attack after 9/11 terror strikes. These are mainly attributed to the alarming increase in the number of widows in the war-ravaged poor country. Kabul, the capital, it is said, is the widows' capital of the world.
There are as many as 50,000 Afghan women beggars in the streets of Kabul.
