Very, very melodic. Here's a tab of what Glen was playing, on the high E string:
E:-3-0-0-5-0-0-3-0-0-5-0-0-3-0-2-0-||
B:--------|-------|-------|--------||
B:--------|-------|-------|--------||
Which, over the changing keys of Dave's guitar, worked really nicely.
The first half of the song is very epic, like a cross of Hangar 18 and...something very 80s, I dont know...Highway To The Danger Zone. But aside from strong vocals and a catchy riff, James caught my eye - he was playing with his fingers instead of the pick, and hitting all strings in arpeggios. Very complicated bass work and definately the highlight of the first half.
The second half is what made people say it was an old school type song. Shawn pummeled into on-beat snare, an inverted beat (he was playing this in the studio clip you can watch on the fan club page). The drumming was really fast, over which Glen and Dave were solo dueling. I have to say that this was by far the best playing I have seen or heard Glen do, including last year's tour and his work with Eidolon. It was also perhaps the fastest and most technical Megadeth has been since Rust in Peace.
Hate to beat a dead horse but - needless to say, the song fucking destroyed, obliterated, and shit in the mouth of the 2 new Metallica songs. If it is anything to represent the new album, it will be both thrashier (more technical solos over faster riffs/drumming) and more melodic (catchy hooks and choruses).
