Dannii on Neon Nights:

001 // Put The Needle On It
This song was really the first single to be released from the album and it will always be very special to me. It was recorded in Sweden and is a bit dark, very dirty and very sexy. I loved the video for this song and I’d love to have one of those giant records in my lounge!

002 // Creep
This was written by Korpi and Blackcell who I also co-wrote Put The Needle On It with. A lot of people have had a good reaction to this one and I really love this song too. It sounds very American to me but I guess it’s more in line with the Put The Needle On It sound. I didn’t write this track and it’s definitely different when I listen to a song I haven’t written, as you have a totally different perspective on them.

003 // I Begin To Wonder
This was produced by JCA who is a very famous dance producer in Germany. I cried when this track reached number 2 in the UK charts – its my highest ever position! Each time I make a video I try to improve and get better and I love this video so much. Kylie’s favourite was Put The Needle On It but she tells me she has been dancing around her lounge to this one a lot!

004 // Hey! (So What)
This is one of the few tracks on the album that I didn’t co-write, but I love it so much because its got a really funky bass line. I’m really into old funk at the moment. I imagine myself dancing to this one on the dance floor – it really puts you in a great mood.

005 // For The Record
This track was also done in Sweden with the same producers as Put The Needle On It. We actually wrote both songs in the same day. For The Record was written really fast. I’m very much into 80’s music and I wanted the producers to give me some CeCe Peniston / Chicago piano chords. We sat down and quickly wrote it with the piano – it was a lot of fun.

006 // Mighty Fine
With this track I wanted to put something unusual on the album. It’s a really really fun song to sing and uses a lot of the register of vocals I was using when I did the show Notre Dame De Paris in London. In fact Terry Ronald (Friend/writer/vocal arranger) said to me Esmeralda’s back when I was singing this in the studio!

007 // On The Loop
I have great memories recording this one. I wrote it with Terry Ronald and some producers called Neďmo in Paris. Neďmo are actually a band who are about to release their own album which is influenced by punky guitar bass (I love it!). This track actually reminds me of a band called Violent Femmes that used to be out ages and ages ago. Neďmo have never produced for anyone else before so this is their first other project. I think my stuff will actually hit the shelves before theirs! They are all young and have amazing old skool equipment which gives them such a distinctive and electro feel – look out for them.

008 // Push
This is written by two mates of mine Terry and Ian who I have worked with on previous albums. We had so much fun getting together in London and writing a bunch of tracks. They also have got some songs on the b-side of I Begin To Wonder (Hide and Seek & Nervous). This song’s a pretty sexy one!

009 // Mystified
Nicknamed as Mystifried with my dancers – we have different names for all the songs! Whenever we are learning a new routine together they always change the lyrics to all the songs! This one again was done with Terry and Ian. This is very funky and my friends who listen to this one tell me it’s very reminiscent of old Prince stuff, which is good because I’m really into that.

010 // Don’t Wanna Lose This Feeling
Done in Paris with Neďmo we re-wrote the chorus to this one 3 times before we came up with this one! I’ve just finished choreographing a routine to this which I absolutely love. In the verses we do Tai Chi and in the bridges we do Double Dutch! The girls in America used to do this back in the 80’s with two skipping ropes and you have to jump very fast with your feet. Let me tell you, it’s the hardest workout ever – my calves are killing me!

011 // Vibe On
I have to be very careful about this one…. It’s about vibrations. I can’t really expand any further than just listen to the lyrics!

012 // A Piece Of Time
Also produced by Neďmo, you can really tell their stuff straight away with the great tricks they do with the vocals and instruments. It’s very big on the bass and the guitar. This track is a pet favourite of mine.

013 // Who Do You Love Now?
I have wicked memories surrounding this song. When I did the guest vocals for Riva a lot of record companies wanted to sign me and do an album so this launched me into making Neon Nights. I also went to Ibiza for the first time to promote this record and when I performed it in the clubs everyone’s hands would go in the air. It was such an amazing and energetic feeling. Hopefully I will make it back there this year.

014 // It Won’t Work Out
This is the only ballad on the album. Its amazingly heart-wrenching lyrics which I wrote with my friends Terry and Ian. I even find it hard to listen to this song sometimes as the lyrics are so strong and meaningful – it’s really beautiful. It’s about breaking up with somebody but you’re the one telling the person that you want to break up. It’s a hard position to be in.

015 // Come And Get It (Sebastian Krieg Remix)
This is a special bonus track for all you guys. It was co-written with a girl called Hannah and JCA who I did I Begin To Wonder with. We wrote this in London and wanted time to write loads of songs together but we just didn’t have the time. Its very sexy and I have loads of mixes to this one at home. This version is my favourite remix. The track might be released by JCA in Germany in the future with me as guest vocalist.
