One adaptation he doesn't have much time for is Stanley Kubrick's 1980 film
of "The Shining." King was vocal about his disdain for the film after it was
released, at least until he had to get rights from Kubrick to make a TV
miniseries of the book a couple of years ago.

"And Kubrick said, 'I'll allow you to do it if you don't badmouth my movie
again,'" King recalls. "So I didn't."

He pauses, then grins: "But now he's dead."
