New interview from the Hungarian newspaper Vasárnapi Blikk (August 5th, 2002):
"The Cure will open a spectacular file....
"We don't have new album, but we make festival appearence for good reason"-says Robert Smith, The Cure's leader, before he stepped to the stage for 30 thousand people. "After our last album's tour we wanted to split up, but just at the end of this tour we began to joy it. This festival-appearance line is just this feeling's 'lead-out', and then we begin a new file in the band's history: we marry together ' for my solo lp's wanted atmospherical, electronical songs ' with the ' Cure's new discovered hard-rock sound', and we are planning for all these a spectacular show. "
Here in Hungary the popular band's 43 years old frontman is gossipping of strange events:"in may of next year we are planning a large-scale 'fun' for the band's 25th anniversary, and we will invite also all the members who joined the Cure in the past. Also Lol Tolhurst!!!! " Hm, this is real strange, because Tolhurst contended with Mr. Smith for reason of money, even, at the highlight of 'i am angry at you' Mr. Smith demanded at the recording of 'shiver and shake' Tolhurst standing before Smith to be able to sing with the real 'hate-feeling.' But this time, he /Robert/ sung with face, transfigurated with joy. And the sound was really rock-styled ."
Also, there's an excellent colour photo of Robert singing and playing guitar on the Budapest gig, with the text: 'Robert Smith even though 43, sang tousled and with make up."
