ROUND-UP Lyon no closer in catch-up game

Saturday 16th March 2002

Lyon failed to narrow the gap to leaders Lens on Saturday when they lost at Lille.

Lyon, still six points adrift of the Sang et Or having played a game more, came unstuck 2-0. Bruno Cheyran put the hosts ahead inside two minutes and Philippe Brunel sealed the win late on.

Rennes edged past Marseille 2-1 in a crucial relegation clash, Dominique Arribage firing them into a 59th-minute lead and Frederic Piquionne striking on 72 minutes.

Paris Saint-Germain put on a second-half show of strength to defeat Troyes 3-1 at the Parc des Princes. Mikael Svensson sent the visitors into the lead on the quarter-hour and Troyes remained in front until the interval.

But Jose Aloisio reduced the deficit on 56 minutes and Ronaldinho netted twice in ten minutes to ensure PSG stay third.

Metz threw away a two-goal lead to gift Auxerre all three points in a 3-2 loss and Nantes maintained their recent good form with a 2-1 triumph over Monaco at the Stade Louis II.

Sochaux kept Guingamp in deep trouble with a 1-0 victory, while Montpellier and Sedan played out a scoreless draw.
