Charlton climbed to seventh after extending their 12-game unbeaten run against rival London clubs with a 1-0 victory over Spurs. "I wish we played Spurs every week, I might add to my goal tally," said goalscorer Chris Powell .
Powell's only previous goal in Charlton came against Spurs, the team he supported as a boy, and he struck again on Monday night, bundling the ball home on 70 minutes.
Spurs boss Glenn Hoddle was angered by Ledley King's failure to clear a hopeful cross, allowing Powell to finish from close range.
Tottenham did not deserve to come away empty-handed, with Gus Poyet denied by Charlton's in-form goalkeeper Dean Kiely and the woodwork on three occasions.
Chances were few and far between for the Addicks, although former Spurs player Luke Young forced Sullivan into a smart save with a shot just before the interval.
Spurs continued to apply pressure throughout the second-half, but Kiely's heroics proved enough in the end, and Hoddle's outfit were condemned to their fourth consecutive defeat.
