GP WORLD : HOME : NEWS : 12/Apr/2001 : Jork Wierdsma : Progress News
Just until recently, I realised that I haven't updated the news for a while. So I'm sorry that I left many of you in the dark.
So what's been happening then? Well, DJ (our patch programmer) is (or will be) running some tests to check that our new initiative, which will be implemented into the patch, will be compatible with the GPW game engine. This new initiative will hopefully allow us to have a larger list of Non-F1 drivers (with in-game sounds and correct helmets for every driver). Not only that, DJ also needs to test whether we can add test drivers to those teams that didn't have test drivers in 1998. So hopefully DJ can finish the tests over the next week and then begin a full assault on the patch programming. :o)
Elsewhere in the project, "barrybumhead" is making excellent progress with the car liveries. Although they're not as good as the liveries we see created for GP3, they are still of a respectable quality that will allow the GPW player to identify each team on the race screen in the game. I myself have continued to work on the images for the patch and they are almost finished. All I need is to update a few more F1 pictures and then create the remainder of the driver head and helmet images.
The website hasn't seen much action lately (apart from the forum) but I do plan to review the car performance/reliability and handling percentage statistics after the San Marino Grand Prix this weekend. Judging by the performance of Williams and Michelin in Brazil, the 2001 season both in reality and Grand Prix World could prove to be very competitive. :op
Like you, I am also anxiously waiting for the release of this patch. So in terms of a time frame, I hope that we will have something solid released by either the end of April or in the first two weeks of May. I cannot guarantee that this will be the case as many of you have already seen the release date slip by at least three months. I apologise to all the people who have heard this time and time again. :o(
