A painter friend had invited me to a party Frida and Diego were having. And the sight of her, with those swallow eyebrows, those eyes! I stayed at her house for several days and sang to her in the mornings; we were enraptured with each other. Then one day I told her I was leaving. She was sad but told me she couldn't and didn't want to tie me to her crutches or to her life. So I just opened the door and left.
