(Próbáltam magyarra fordíttatni, de annyira rossz lett, hogy inkább itt az eredti)
So I test rode the 1300GS for 2 hours on the 1300 and 2 hours on my 1250 today.
It was really good to do back to back and my bike and the 1300 had identical tyres Metzeler Tourance 2 on roads I know, so really was a good comparison
Here are my thoughts.
It was good - but honestly overall I actually prefer the 1250.. The 1300 is a bit more agile when you push it hard, it’s definitely not a middle weight as is being touted it’s still a big adventure bike.
On the 1300 the gearbox is slicker and more positive and the quick shift is better and actually works 1st > 2nd, if you have experienced a rose jointed linkage versus a bushed linkage you’ll know what I mean. More snick snick than rubbery clunk.
In terms of chassis the 1250 is definitely more comfortable on UK roads it’s got more compliance in the chassis.
1250 is pretty much as quick as the 1300, in real life there is very little in it. The fuelling is better on the 1250, throttle response much smoother at low speeds, I found the 1300 fuelling was a little snatchy and a little on /off so not so comfortable at low speeds and town work. Perhaps this abruptness for fuel cut off is to meet Euro 5 emissions standards?
The 1300 engine was smoother from very low revs, you can roll on at <2k revs in 6th and isn’t lumpy at at all, however mid-range and where you are normally in the rev range nothing in it between the 1250 and the 1300. Last 1000 rpm between 8 and 9000rpm the 1300 pips it but not by much in reality.
I really liked the radar cruise, worked really well. Felt incredibly reassuring and intuitive from 1st use. In fact I had to use the radar cruise control for safety so I could navigate the menu whilst riding, more on that later.
The menu system has got more complex as they have removed a few buttons so you have to go into the menu which is really irritating- like a modern car. I actually needed to put on the radar cruise to work through the screen options as you ride with eyes not fully on the road so you can go through the menus, the shortcut button is not much use and you always find yourself back at the full menu. I find the 1250 buttons better in this respect as you do via feel and muscle memory and a quick confirmation glance, whereas with the new menu system you have to do some reading whilst riding - not good!
In summary 1300 feels very similar to a 1250 if you close your eyes, but just not as comfortable or suited to UK roads as much when you are riding at normal speeds. If you push really hard then that’s when you see the difference and the 1300 does perform 15% better dynamically across the range (acceleration, cornering and braking), the reality is for 95% of the time when you are going normal to fast speeds the 1250 is the better option overall especially for comfort and covering big distances. The 1300 clutch and brake levers started to irritate after about 90 mins they are definitely not as rounded on the edges and comfortable as the 1250 levers.
The rear brake is sadly still the same affair on the 1300 as the 1250 - personally for me, far too much movement before activation and next to useless when standing on the pegs, wish they had sorted that. I know the brakes are linked on both 1250 and 1300 but still..
In terms of looks I think the 1300 looks good when you see the detail but has lost some presence. The Perspex side wind deflectors are good you see an extra portion of road
The front light looks fine to me I think styling is more modern and sleeker. I like the details such as the centre stand with the pull out lever to stop the lever hitting your heel as the current one does and the dampening to stop clunks on big bumps. I like the pre silencer so the end can can be much slimmer.
It’s a bit like L322 Range Rover vs L405 Range Rover if you know what I mean.
In that respect the 1250 feels like it will age better over a long time period.
*** if I lived on continental Europe with less traffic and your FAR better road surfaces than the UK then yes 1300 would be at an advantage and the one to buy.
