"Norken-Blue Divide

Norken, the more dance-oriented Metamatics pseudonym, gives us Blue Divide.A remix album of his first two full-lengths. Remix albums are always tricky beasts; whether they work or fail, the question remains: are we to attribute this to the original artist or the remixer? Luckily, Norken’s electronic tones lend themselves to reimagining, as in the Tom Churchill’s deep take on “Painting” or the Chamber’s blip-dance revision of “The Way.” Simex’s version of “Static” and dbit’s mix of “Southern Soul” also veer towards the dancefloor, though in a slightly heavier fashion. STM give “East” a glitch-house touch, while Sarokin & Landau revise “Which Way” a sweet thrumming. Really, though, these mixes aren’t too far removed from the general Metamatics aesthetic -- which, in my mind, is a good thing.
