Na, itt egy tisztességes Stiff Upper Lip kritika, csak úgy miheztartás végett.
Persze, valami hozzáértő külföldi írta, nem is ilyen magyar nyikhaj, amivel tele van az MHH :-)
Like Motorhead and the Ramones (and pretty much no one else), AC/DC has stuck with one sound and never veered off course. That doesn't mean they haven't had their low points, or that each record was a carbon copy of the previous, we are, after all, talking about a band that has made 17 albums in nearly 30 years. AC/DC is, however, an institution that provides dependable, steel-hard blues rock which never has and never will contain samples, drum machines, loops, power ballads, hip hop vocals, or duets with here-today-gone-tomorrow "rock stars."
If anything, Stiff Upper Lip is bluesier and more single-minded (the latter is saying a lot given this bunch) than anything since the Bon Scott days. Maybe this isn't too surprising, given that the production is helmed by older brother George Young, who, along with fellow ex-Easybeat Harry Vanda, produced the early classics from this unstoppable band. Also back on board is drummer Phil Rudd, meaning that this is the same line-up that recorded Back in Black and For Those About to Rock We Salute You, as well as the often overlooked Flick of the Switch. The sound is raw, tight, clear, and unadorned with needless effects. The songs sound instantly familiar-it's AC/DC! Like other practitioners of hard-assed blues rock, thinking mainly the Stones here, the guys have aged but not necessarily matured, and the aging ain't too graceful. This has kept the music rude, edgy and valid to lovers of real rock 'n' roll. Is the record filled with classics like "Back in Black" or "Highway to Hell?" Maybe not, but that's easier to say with hindsight and a firm hand on the wallet that pays for airplay in the land of the free. I tell you this: It's solid, heavy AC/DC, and if you like the sound of early blues-rock efforts like Powerage and High Voltage mixed with the slower Sherman Tank grooves of the best of the band's work with razor-voiced Brian Johnson, you're bound to love this.
