"Judaism teaches that the soul does not die, only the body. The soul goes to the World to Come, where he is judged for what he did in this world. The righteous enjoy a spiritual pleasure of closeness to G-d, a pleasure unlike anything in this world. Those who have sinned but were basically good believed in G-d and tried to be good will be punished for their sins in Gehinom and then will enter the world of spiritual pleasure. Those who were thoroughly wicked will go into Gehinom and stay there forever.
Judaism teaches that even the body of a righteous person deserves some reward, and there will come a time when the bodies will be resurrected and united with the soul to enjoy the afterlife."
