powderfinger

Look out, Mama,
there's a white boat
comin' up the river
With a big red beacon,
and a flag,
and a man on the rail
I think you'd better call John,
'Cause it don't
look like they're here
to deliver the mail
And it's less than a mile away
I hope they didn't come to stay
It's got numbers on the side
and a gun
And it's makin' big waves.

Daddy's gone,
my brother's out hunting
in the mountains
Big John's been drinking
since the river took Emmy-Lou
So the powers that be
left me here
to do the thinkin'
And I just turned twenty-two
I was wonderin' what to do
And the closer they got,
The more those feelings grew.

Daddy's rifle in my hand
felt reassurin'
He told me,
Red means run, son,
numbers add up to nothin'
But when the first shot
hit the docks I saw it comin'
Raised my rifle to my eye
Never stopped to wonder why.
Then I saw black,
And my face splashed in the sky.

Shelter me from the powder
and the finger
Cover me with the thought
that pulled the trigger
Think of me
as one you'd never figured
Would fade away so young
With so much left undone
Remember me to my love,
I know I'll miss her.

There lived a certain man in Russia long ago
He was big and strong, in his eyes a flaming glow
Most people looked at him with terror and with fear
But to Moscow chicks he was such a lovely dear
He could preach the bible like a preacher
Full of ecstasy and fire
But he also was the kind of teacher
Women would desire

Ra Ra Rasputin, lover of the Russian queen
There was a cat that really was gone
Ra Ra Rasputin, Russia's greatest love machine
It was a shame how he carried on

He ruled the Russian land and never mind the Czar
But the kasachok he danced really wunderbar
In all affairs of state he was the man to please
But he was real great when he had a girl to squeeze
For the queen he was no wheeler dealer
Though she'd heard the things he'd done
She believed he was a holy healer
Who would heal her son

Ra Ra Rasputin, lover of the Russian queen
There was a cat that really was gone
Ra Ra Rasputin, Russia's greatest love machine
It was a shame how he carried on

But when his drinking and lusting and his hunger
for power became known to more and more people,
the demands to do something about this outrageous
man became louder and louder.

Hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey

"This man's just got to go," declared his enemies
But the ladies begged, "Don't you try to do it, please"
No doubt this Rasputin had lots of hidden charms
Though he was a brute they just fell into his arms
Then one night some men of higher standing
Set a trap, they're not to blame
"Come to visit us," they kept demanding
And he really came

Ra Ra Rasputin, lover of the Russian queen
They put some poison into his wine
Ra Ra Rasputin, Russia's greatest love machine
He drank it all and said "I feel fine"

Ra Ra Rasputin, lover of the Russian queen
They didn't quit, they wanted his head
Ra Ra Rasputin, Russia's greatest love machine
And so they shot him till he was dead

Hasta siempre Comandante

Aprendimos a quererte
desde la histórica altura
donde el sol de tu bravura
le puso cerco a la muerte.

Aquí se queda la clara,
la entrañable transparencia,
de tu querida presencia
Comandante Che Guevara.

Tu mano gloriosa y fuerte
sobre la historia dispara
cuando todo Santa Clara
se despierta para verte.

Vienes quemando la brisa
con soles de primavera
para plantar la bandera
con la luz de tu sonrisa.

Tu amor revolucionario
te conduce a nueva empresa
donde esperan la firmeza
de tu brazo libertario.

Seguiremos adelante
como junto a ti seguimos
y con Fidel te decimos:
!Hasta siempre, Comandante!

Long Gone Day

So much blood I'm starting to drown
Runs from cold to colder
Time to time the sky's come down
To help me lose my way
Tears and lies for answers
You and open veins, God knows I'm gone
Girl I just want you to
Come on down
Lord it's a storm and I'm heading to fall
These sins are mine and I've done wrong, oh babe
Come on down

Long Gone Day
Mmmm, who ever said
We wash away with the rain

See you all from time to time
Isn't it so strange
How far away we all are now
Am I the only one who remembers that summer
Oh, I remember
Everyday each time the place was saved
The music that we made
The wind has carried all of that away

Long gone day
Mmmm, who ever said
We wash away with the rain

So many tears I'm starting to drown
The rain in heaven's all come down
Silver spoons affix the crown
The luckless ones are broken
Fears and lies for answers
You and open flames
God knows I'm gone
And I just want you to
Come on down, hmmm

Lord it's a storm and I'm heading to fall
These sins are mine and I've done wrong
I want you to, oh, I just want you to
Come on down

I fear again, like then, I've lost my way
And shout to God to bring my sunny day

Standing by my window, breathing summer breeze

Saw a figure floating, 'neath the willow tree

Asked us if we were happy, we said we didn't know

Took us by the hands and up we go

We followed the dreamer through the purple hazy clouds

He could control our sense of time

We thought we were lost but no matter how we tried

Everyone was in peace of mind

We felt the sensations drift inside our frames

Finding complete contentment there

And all the tensions that hurt us in the past

Just seemed to vanish in thin air

He said in the cosmos is a single sonic sound

That is vibrating constantly

And if we could grip and hold on to the note

We would see our minds were free...oh they're free

We are lost above

Floating way up high

If you think you can find a way

You can surely try

Deceiver

Solar winds are blowing

Neutron star controlling

All is lost, doomed and tossed, at what cost forever

Meteors fly around me

Comets die, and then they

And then they, you wanna see how they try to surround me

I can say, here today, we shall stay forever

If you want to find us in a hurry

Oh let me tell you don't you worry

I can't say, here today, we shall stay forever

Hush now, don't you cry

Wipe away the teardrop from your eye

You're lying safe in bed

It was all a bad dream

Spinning in your head

Your mind tricked you to feel the pain

Of someone close to you leaving the game of life

So here it is, another chance

Wide awake you face the day

Your dream is over.... or has it just begun?

There's a place I like to hide

A doorway that I run through in the night

Relax child, you were there

But only didn't realize it and you were scared

It's a place where you will learn

To face your fears, retrace the years

And ride the whims of your mind

Commanding in another world

Suddenly you hear and see

This magic new dimension

I- will be watching over you

I- am gonna help you see it through

I- will protect you in the night

I- am smiling next to you, in Silent Lucidity

If you open your mind for me

You won't rely on open eyes to see

The walls you built within

Come tumbling down, and a new world will begin

Living twice at once you learn

You're safe from the pain in the dream domain

A soul set free to fly

A round trip journey in your head

Master of illusion, can you realize

Your dream's alive, you can be the guide but...

I- will be watching over you

I- am gonna help to see it through

I- will protect you in the night

I- am smiling next to you.........

"The Ballad Of Nora Lee" is the third album from Helldorado.

After receiving astonishing reviews for the two previous albums, "Lost Highway" and "Director´s Cut", Helldorado now proudly presents stories from their latest visit to the land of sin, anxiety and regrets.

After planning this album for months, Helldorado started the recording-process in mid. may 2005, and after two months in Out Of Tune(s) studio, outside Stavanger, the band dipped their soar fingers in old malt whiskey and nodded imperceptible with pride to each other. Some may even go as far as saying they smiled.

On "The Ballad Of Nora Lee" Dag Vagle has dug as deep as ever within his uneasy mind to bring to light these songs from the land beyond.

To take part in these stories, which no one leaves without a marked soul, you can buy "The Ballad Of Nora Lee" here

Alas, my love, you do me wrong,
To cast me off discourteously.
For I have loved you well and long,
Delighting in your company.

Chorus:
Greensleeves was all my joy
Greensleeves was my delight,
Greensleeves was my heart of gold,
And who but my lady greensleeves.

Your vows you've broken, like my heart,
Oh, why did you so enrapture me?
Now I remain in a world apart
But my heart remains in captivity.

chorus
I have been ready at your hand,
To grant whatever you would crave,
I have both wagered life and land,
Your love and good-will for to have.

chorus
If you intend thus to disdain,
It does the more enrapture me,
And even so, I still remain
A lover in captivity.

chorus
My men were clothed all in green,
And they did ever wait on thee;
All this was gallant to be seen,
And yet thou wouldst not love me.

chorus
Thou couldst desire no earthly thing,
but still thou hadst it readily.
Thy music still to play and sing;
And yet thou wouldst not love me.

chorus
Well, I will pray to God on high,
that thou my constancy mayst see,
And that yet once before I die,
Thou wilt vouchsafe to love me.

chorus
Ah, Greensleeves, now farewell, adieu,
To God I pray to prosper thee,
For I am still thy lover true,
Come once again and love me.

If I leave here tomorrow
Would you still remember me?
For I must be travelling on, now,
’cause there’s too many places I’ve got to see.
But, if I stayed here with you, girl,
Things just couldn’t be the same.
’cause I’m as free as a bird now,
And this bird you can not change.
Lord knows, I can’t change.

Bye, bye, it’s been a sweet love.
Though this feeling I can’t change.
But please don’t take it badly,
’cause lord knows I’m to blame.
But, if I stayed here with you girl,
Things just couldn’t be the same.
Cause I’m as free as a bird now,
And this bird you’ll never change.
And this bird you can not change.
Lord knows, I can’t change.
Lord help me, I can’t change.

Highwayman

I was a highwayman. Along the coach roads I did ride
With sword and pistol by my side
Many a young maid lost her baubles to my trade
Many a soldier shed his lifeblood on my blade
The bastards hung me in the spring of twenty-five
But I am still alive.

I was a sailor. I was born upon the tide
And with the sea I did abide.
I sailed a schooner round the Horn to Mexico
I went aloft and furled the mainsail in a blow
And when the yards broke off they said that I got killed
But I am living still.

I was a dam builder across the river deep and wide
Where steel and water did collide
A place called Boulder on the wild Colorado
I slipped and fell into the wet concrete below
They buried me in that great tomb that knows no sound
But I am still around..I'll always be around..and around and around and
around and around

I fly a starship across the Universe divide
And when I reach the other side
I'll find a place to rest my spirit if I can
Perhaps I may become a highwayman again
Or I may simply be a single drop of rain
But I will remain
And I'll be back again, and again and again and again and again..

Beth I hear you callin'
But I can't come home right now
Me and the boys are playin'
And we just can't find the sound

Just a few more hours
And I'll be right home to you
I think I hear them callin'
Oh Beth what can I do
Beth what can I do

You say you feel so empty
That our house just ain't our home
I'm always somewhere else
And you're always there alone

Just a few more hours
And I'll be right home to you
I think I hear them callin'
Oh Beth what can I do
Beth what can I do

Beth, I know you're lonely
And I hope you'll be alright
'Cos me and the boys will be playin' all night

you ever heard the story, of mister faded glory
say he who rides the pony must someday fall
i been talkin to my alter it says life is what you make it
and if you make it death well rest your soul away, away, away
it's a broken kinda feelin, should have to tie me to the ceiling
a bad moons-a-comin better say your prayers
i wanna tell her that i love her but does it really matter
i just can't stand to see you dragging down again, again, again
this is my kinda love
it's the kind that moves on
it's unkind and leaves me alone
repeat
i used to treat you like a lady, now you're a substitute teacher
this bottles not a pretty, not a pretty sight to see
i owe the man some money so i'm turning over honey
you see mister faded glory is once again doin time

seems I been living in the temple of the dog

or would I live at all

words and music - my only tools

communication

so on her arrival I will set free the birds

its a pretty time of year, the mountains sing aloud

tell me Mr golden words hows bout the world

tell me, can you tell me at all

words and music - my only tools

communication

lets fall in love with music

the driving force in our living

the only international language

all along the river of misery and woe

i’m ridin’ through the darkness and i’m feelin’ low

all along the highway of trouble and strife

the highway i have travelled most of my life

where will it end

this journey of trials

tell me my friend

where will it end

way over yonder i will lay me down

and sleep forever sleep

boots of coal black leather with silver spurs so bright

i’m ridin’ through the badlands in the dead of the night

ridin’ through the desert, ridin’ through the sand

but will i ever reach the promised land

where do they end, these days of depression

tell me, my friend, where do they end

way over yonder, i will lay me down

and sleep forever sleep

one of these mornings dreary and cold

i’m going to the mountain where i can rest my soul

no longer will i suffer no longer be a slave

my soul belongs to Heaven

my body to my grave

i’m going where there ain’t no depression and no more trials

i’m going there

way over yonder i will lay me down

and sleep forever sleep

Lucy and Mary come to my shack

the moment was sacred

the night it was black

they lit a fire

engulfed us all in flames

they took me higher

they took meg further in

my secret treasures

i called them by their names

they gave me pleasure

and sufferin’ sin

Lucy and Mary will never return

their bodies i’ll bury

forever they’ll burn

i see the fire

i see the naked flame

my dark desire

well, it’s a God damn shame

i see what i’ve done

i see what i’ve done wrong

forgive me Father

don’t let me suffer long

i drink whisky all through the night

strung like a wire

too scared to fight

I wanna be buried next to Jesse James

I wanna be buried next to Jesse James

He was a family man

He made his living robbing trains

Frank and Jesse James

Jesse was a soldier

So was brother Frank

From the cup of humiliation

Both brothers drank

Frank and Jesse James

When I die give me no words of praise

Just say I was an outlaw

And I rode with Jesse James

Frank and Jesse James

I turned my back to Jesse

Like Judas did to Christ

He was my best friend

But I had a passion for his wife

Frank and Jesse James

A jealous hearted man will do most anything

For the death of Jesse, I am to blame

Frank and Jesse James

Give me no funeral

No words of sympathy

Give me no funeral

No words of sympathy

Just bury me next to Jesse

Underneath the tall oak tree

Frank and Jesse James

Frank and Jesse James

Frank and Jesse James

I was born in Ft. Worth Texas 47 years ago

I spent 27 years as a free man

I spent 20 on death row

20 on death row

I shot and killed my girlfriend

Then I sat and watched her die

Then I turned the gun against myself

But my aim was a little high

My aim was a little high

I think about her all the night

I dream about her all day

There’s not a higher price

For a man like me to pay

For a man like me to pay

I won’t ask god for forgiveness

There’s still too many people I hate

But she was not one of them

And I realized that too late

I realized that too late

I won’t say that I’m lonely

Cause there’s too many voices in my head

The one I hear most frequently

Says the girl you loved is dead

The girl you loved is dead

Well, I’m gonna die tomorrow

Of course, I’m terrified

I just wish that both of us

On that faithful day I die

On that faithful day I die

Well, I was born in Ft. Worth Texas

I’m gonna die down in Tennessee

You’ll put me in a pauper’s grave

And then you’ll be rid of me

And then you’ll be rid of me

the ballad of johnny guitar

I spent my high school years in Oklahoma

I left as soon as I could drive

It’s one thing to die slowly

It’s another to be buried alive

I spent my life seeking pleasure

They called me a disreputable man

I never worked a day for a livin’

I just lived off the wages of sin

I knew a pretty woman

But I guess that’s over now

It doesn’t really matter

To me she never loved me anyhow

But now I’m on my death bed

I’m gonna die here all alone

The farmer bringing in his harvest

Of all the wild seeds he has sowed

Of all the wild seeds he has sowed

My mama was Christian

She tried to raise me right

But by nature I was evil

And I was drawn to neon lights

I lived my life a drunkard

I didn’t give a good god damn

I started out to be a preacher

But I ended up a guitar man

I never trusted anybody

I treated my loved ones like a joke

And my soul is headed for hellfire

And my body’s going up in smoke

The glory train is leaving

And so my boat will be shot

The wages of sin are guilty pleasures

But salvation can’t be bought

Salvation can’t be bought

Play some guitar Johnny

Play it for me

I Don't Exist

I just don’t exist

When I’m gone

I won’t be missed

Like an astronaut

Lost in space

I will quickly be replaced

Since you filed for a divorce

My ship is permanently off course

Now I’m just killing time

Loving you was my only crime

the day had been too hot to love too hot to say goodbye

i kissed my kids and hugged my wife and wished them a safe ride

i cursed the sky i felt alone and shed a tear

i’d waited for this day i couldn’t face another year

it hadn’t helped to pray, no way, no way

i walked upstairs with the keys that would make my life unfold

and opened up the rifle chest the barrel was ice cold, ice cold

i found my silver bullet i warmed it in my hand

i looked around i shut the door my heart was pounding like a hunted boar

i crossed the driveway, walked to the shed

this time tomorrow they would find me dead

find me with a bullet in my head

i lit my last cigarette but didn’t have the strength to inhale

i was relieved i’d come this far my alternative to jail

an alternative to jail, i’d lived my life on bail

i couldn’t bare the thought of them leaving her daddy’s farm

so my misfortune i would bury with my tense and shanking arm

a tense and shaking arm, a tense and shaking arm

i knew my life would end like this i’d waited for this day

i knew that i was bound to fail i knew how i would pay

i’d waited for this day, i’d waited for this day

there’s been a murder on the highway tonight

i tell you one thing, it was not a pretty sight

the body was found in a creek by the old motel

i saw her face, a face we know damn well

there’s a killer on the highway, diesel in his veins

a killer on the highway, blowin’ out brains

there’s been a murder on the highway tonight

i caught a glimpse of the body it was pale and white

i wonder what went down in the killer’ws head

when he picked up his gun and filled that girl with lead

there’s a killer on the highway, diesel in his veins

a killer on the highway, blowin’ out brains

just take a look around, tehere’s so much blood and gore

i’m pretty sure that the weapon was your old 44

well, she really got you down, she made you feel so blue

well, man i’ve crossed your path, i guess my time is through

your’re a killer on the highway, diesel in your veins

a killer on the highway, blowin’out brains

i rode down to the river, as tehe evening shadows fell

i met up with a lady whose name i cannot tell

her hair was black as night, her lips like ruby wine

her skin was pale and white and how her eyes did shine, her eyes did shine

she said: sir, won’t you come along? won’t you come along with me?

to a place by the river, where a pleasure waits for thee

we rode into the woods till we came upon a shack

then we stopped and she said:

there’s no way back, there’s no way back

she took me by the hand’n pulled me inside

she told me i was gonna be her man and to her i should abide

she started pullin’ off her dress, her pleasures to reveal

she untied her garter belt, she had nothin’ to conceal

i kissed her once and i kissed her twice

then she whispered in my ear: all i want is a little blood

and it filled my heart with fear

i felt her canine teeth cutting through my skin

i felt my own blood running down her chin, down her chin

i picked up a wooden stick and drove the stake through the heart

when i saw her eyes roll back i knew she’d played her part

i threw her body int he river, but that was not the end of the song

coz’ on my way back to town i felt my teeth grow sharp and long

Papa, Oh Papa

It’s plain to see

You was hoping’ for a daughter

Instead of a son like me

Someone who would sew your shirts

Someone who would bake your pies

Someone to look into your face

With sweet adoring eyes

I was a disappointment

Right from the start

‘Cause you could recognize in me

Your own cold heart

Papa, Oh Papa

It’s like old times

You gettin’ drunk on whiskey

Me getting’ stoned on wine

David slew Goliath

To right a terrible wrong

Gonna beat you with my fist

I’m gonna kill you with this song

Kill you with this song

Kill you with this song

Kill you with this song

I’m gonna kill you with my song

Kill you

Kill you

Papa, oh papa

Kill you

Came into town all dressed in black
Stetson hat and a gold tooth guitar slung across his back
Walked into the pawn shop and he stuck out his hand
Said hey Mr. Pawnbroker what’ll you give me for this wedding band

A fair price I’ll give you not a penny less
But I’m curious about you I must confess
What is your story won’t you tell it to me
What makes you think you deserve my sympathy

Hey Mr. Pawnbroker he replied do you have a wife
Do you think she thinks about you every minute of your life
Is her name Coretta does she have a rose tattoo
Do you know who she was married to before she was married to you

Now I must be leaving to catch a train out west
Maybe you’ll think twice before asking someone to confess
I’m a holiness preacher I been born anew
Look for me on Sundays I’ll be somewhere preaching the blues

True love is a blessing, true love is a curse
Loneliness or hell fire, who knows which is worse

I loved her with a vengeance, I gave her all I had
I never really knew her or why she looked so sad
I tried to understand her, gave her all I could
Rumors began to circulate all over the neighborhood
I tried to ignore them, called them vicious lies
I knew that if I believed them, one of us must die

True love, true love

Passion breeds suspicion, envy, jealousy
I raised my hand against her, she pulled a gun on me
Twice she pulled the trigger, twice I called her name
I hit the floor a bleeding, foolish pride was to blame
She’s down in Oklahoma, I’m buried in Tennessee
Flowers she puts on my grave on our wedding anniversary

True love, true love (three times)
