More on the HungarianThursday, June 22nd, 2006
According to the Söderstadion internet forum the Hungarian coach Géza Mészöly is described like this by a Újpest supporter:
He’s been the coach of Újpest for 2,5 years and under his control we earned silver medal twice and a 4th place. The two silvers could have been really good results but we lost the gold in the final round on both occasions.
On the other hand he’s a pretty talented young coach. Újpest had a really offensive style of play, we scored the most goals in the Hungarian league. The team played amusing football which the fans like. He’s got a good sense of fitting young players in the team. He can be fanatic about his team and can make the players feel the same and play this way. Sometimes his substitutions were quite incomprehensible but sometimes the substituted players won the matches for Újpest. He wants the players to fight until the final whistle blows, we won several matches in the last 15 minutes and even in the time added on after the 90 minutes (against our greatest rivals ).
As a person he’s very intelligent, sympathetic and never forgets to say thank you to the fans for the support and mention their importance as the 12th player. He’s tending to be a very good coach but as he’s been only the coach of a first league team for 2,5 years he needs some more experience. I think he would be a good choice for Hammarby, you would like him. Good luck!
On the same internet forum a Hungarian football site is cited to place Mészöly in Turkey at the moment where he’s negotiating with a club. But it also says that he’s got a offer from a Scandinavian club and that he will decide next week. The tabloid Expressen has picked up the story and Mészöly comments the roumor like this:
-It is a Swedish company that are responsible for the negotiations, says Mészöly Géza to Nemetzi Sport and continue:
-Nothing is final yet. the only thing I know is that Cardiff and Hammarby clearly was impressed by my success. I don’t know which [club] I’ll go to, since I besides international offers have got Hungarian.
