Q. Of course it's your job here to play, but the weather has been miserable for the first four days. Has it been completely unenjoyable, except for winning? What is the experience like?
CARLOS MOYA: Well, the good thing that I take today is that I won the match in straight sets, which is very good for me. Conditions were the worst for me: 11:00 in the morning, pretty cold, windy. So was not easy.
But I think I played very well. As you said, it was not the day to enjoy but to win. Given those conditions, I think I played a great match. I'm very proud of that.
THE MODERATOR: Questions in Spanish, please.
Q. We hadn't seen you play in such a varied way, perfect forehand, backhand. What's the difference between today and previous matches?
CARLOS MOYA: Well, I'm not one of the top 10. In the last tournaments I played opponents that were difficult because it was difficult for me to play my game.
It's also true that today I had a solid game, I served well, I was able to dominate the game, good forehand, good backhand. There was only a bit of a problem in the third set when I was a bit at risk. Also, of course, the weather. It was early, very cold. That's not my favorite conditions.
Despite that, I think it was a good match, three sets. I'm really grateful for that.
Q. You play Davydenko. You played him in Estoril. Maybe he has learned a few tricks to beat you.
CARLOS MOYA: He's a better player today than when I played him the four previous times. He's in the top 10 now. He is a rival that will be difficult to beat. He's a solid player. He serves very hard. He runs a lot. There was the match in Estoril, three sets, where I had opportunities but ended up losing the match.
I'm happy with the two matches that I've won. I'm going to have to think about how winning the match against Davydenko will go. I'll try to play well. If I win, great. If I don't, good luck to him.
Q. We saw you were very focused. Is this Roland Garros something special for you or is it just one more Roland Garros?
CARLOS MOYA: Well, Roland Garros is always special. I know that I'm not a favorite here. That changes things for you because you're not so much under pressure. I think I've still got good tennis to play. I think I've been playing well, not just these past days, but also during previous tournaments.
I'm not looking at this as something very special. I'm just looking at it as one more Roland Garros. But it is Roland Garros. I'm trying to take one match at a time. I'll have to play a rival that's very tough.
Q. Davydenko can be the opponent who will show you what your expectations are here. Will it help you look towards the future? Is it somebody that is going to test you?
CARLOS MOYA: Yeah, probably, probably. If you win, it's because you've played well, obviously. He always plays at the same level. He's a solid player, one of the top 10. He was a semifinalist. He knows what to do to go far. Obviously, playing Davydenko is going to show me where I stand.
I think it's going to be a complicated match. I do hope the weather conditions change a little bit. I hope the sun comes out. I'll need the sun. I know that he likes playing in that sort of condition. I hope the conditions will change and that will help me.
Q. Have you adjusted your game before Roland Garros, fine tuned your game before this tournament? Everything is perfect so far, haven't lost a single set.
CARLOS MOYA: No, I think the difference is the draw. Before, I didn't have these sort of players. You know, it was either Rafa, González, Blake. In Barcelona, I lost a match to Korolev. It's always difficult. Even when I was in the top 10 to play that sort of player. I knew my game was fine.
I do think I have the right level, but I need to sustain that level for a long time. I might not be top 10, but I'm here at the tournament.
Q. What do you think about the new balls? Are they faster? Does that go in your favor or against you?
CARLOS MOYA: I haven't really noticed a great difference. I think the weather is very important. I know I say this all the time. You know, the weather completely changes the tournament. It can be a radically different tournament. It depends on whether it's sunny, cloudy, raining. Now there's something that is totally unprecedented. I hadn't seen the sun since I arrived.
The balls are heavy. It's difficult to have spin, to have a particular game. I think if the sun comes out, things will be a little faster. That will be in my favor if I can serve well and play well.
Q. Last year you didn't play on center court. Today we saw you were doing fine. What were you feeling?
CARLOS MOYA: I don't want to see Suzanne Lenglen. I don't want to go there, because that's where I lost over the past two years (smiling). Yes, I'm happy because at my age, it's not my best year, I've been able to play on center court in the second round, that gives you strength.
You can see you're still important, you're still well‑considered. I have great memories of that central court because that's where I won my first Grand Slam, my only Grand Slam. I hope that I will be able to play more matches on center court. Wherever I play, I'll try to do my best.
Nem rossz látvány....... :)))) Nem semmi, 61 61 a világ egyik legjobb játékosának, lehet hogy újra megtalálja a formáját!! :))) Menekülj Roger, a döntőben laposra ver Carlos :))
(3)C Moya(ESP) vs. (WC)M Gallardo Valles(MEX) 36 64 75
