MOSCOW — A striking change came over Moscow just hours after Donald Trump’s surprise election: Suddenly, the Russian capital was a hotbed of zealous supporters of the U.S. electoral process.
Throughout the campaign, Russia rooted for Trump as much as any other foreign country. According to the White House, Moscow also interfered as much as any other foreign country ever has in a U.S. election. But the Kremlin’s commentators — convinced that Hillary Clinton was going to win — had also trashed the U.S. election as dirty, corrupt and unable to produce a legitimate result.
Now that their man was in, and with Russian TV showing cheery Americans lining up to vote for Trump, they had to change their tune. “This is a great day for American democracy,” gushed pro-Kremlin ideologue Sergei Markov at breakfast at the U.S. ambassador’s residence in Moscow. “We have to respect American democracy.”
Public gloating aside, the long-term implications of a Trump presidency for the Kremlin are unclear. The two countries share years of bad blood and a basket of geopolitical grievances. A shortened list includes the conflict in Syria, the 2014 annexation of Crimea, U.S. economic sanctions and a military buildup on both sides of Russia’s border with NATO. In just one night recently, NATO warplanes intercepted Russian jets 13 times.
Is a change of presidents going to make all that go away? Despite Trump’s promises to seek warmer relations, the warier commentators and officials in Moscow were skeptical.
“They're drinking in the Kremlin now,” said Alexei Venediktov, editor in chief of Echo of Moscow.

Ha jól olvastam, tüntetést is szerveznek, mert az egyáltalán nem demokratikus, hogy egy választáson törvényesen győz egy jelölt, hanem az a demokratikus, ha a hivatalos eredményt nem fogadjuk el, tudniillik a demokrácia játékszabályai csak akkor érvényesek, ha a haladó szellemű jelölt győzedelmeskedik. A fasisztákkal bármi megtehető. (Aki ezt nem így gondolja, az a béke ellensége és náci.)
De természetesen a haladás hazai hívei nem hagyják cserben a béketábor amerikai képviselőit, átérzik az ügy jelentőségét, és sietnek vigaszt nyújtani ebben a kétségbeesésében. „Trump megválasztásának vélhetően lesz egy rakás következménye, ami sok amerikai életét fogja rosszabbá tenni: a különféle etnikai és vallási kisebbségek tagjai, a nők, a melegek mind joggal aggódhatnak amiatt, hogy az elmúlt évtizedben kivívott jogaik szűkülni fognak a következő években” – írja az emberi jogok és demokrácia nagy élharcosa, a 444.hu.
Ezt a nőelnyomás dolgot mondjuk nem értem. Amíg nem volt ez a migránscécó, addig a burka kérdéskörében a haladó erők nagyjából megegyeztek. Így lehetne összefoglalni: a muszlim nőnek joga van burkát hordani Svájcban, mert az ott szabadság és másság, de nem lehet Szaúd-Arábiában, mert az patriarchális nőelnyomás. Tehát a muszlim viselkedhet úgy, ahogy akar Európában – ahol alkalmazkodnia kéne –, de nem élhet úgy, ahogy akar, a saját szülőföldjén. Nekem ez mondjuk magas, de hát én bizonyára egy náci vagyok.

One Russian city wants to send a message to Americans protesting the election of Donald Trump: Well, we like him.
The city of Obninsk was granted a permit for a rally Saturday in favor of the U.S. president-elect — another sign of Trump’s embrace in a country whose relations with the Obama administration soured badly over rifts such as Syria and Ukraine.
The demonstration was organized by Artyom Mainas, a 27-year-old blogger in Obninsk, a nuclear-research center some 60 miles south of Moscow.

Trump’s national security team has been meeting this week and planning how it might remove the position from the federal government, according to The Intercept report. The team has been looking into how it would fold different parts of the organization into 16 federal intelligence agencies that it currently oversees. The decision would undo a key recommendation of the 9/11 commission.
It’s still unclear how to Trump would break apart the DNI if he chooses to. The cabinet-level position was created in 2005, after the 9/11 Commission recommended establishing the position to fix major intelligence failures that occurred in the lead up to the September 11 terrorism attacks. The office was created as part of the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act, so a new law would have to be passed in order to undo any provisions.
