AOTD - Album of the day
EFB - Első felületes benyomás
NFR - Nice fucking refrén (azaz épp nem tudod kitörölni az adott refrént, dallamot a füledből)
MM - Most megy (azaz most épp ezt hallgatod)
mi van ma? pihenni tértek a rock katonái? semmi belezés?
azért a Darthrone címlapra nem érdemes várni, úgyis elcseszik valami idióta tulipiros logóval. esetleg a hammer-logó lenyúló villámait is át lehetne cserélni pallosra, akkor minden hammer pallikus címlapú volna
Ja, új APC klip természetesen a 3 libras.
na, eljutott hozzam is a havi metálbiblia:)
Q: On his latest solo live album Bruce Dickinson used a poor fish illustration on the cover and said that you didn't make him a proper cover, so that's why he's using that fish. What about that?
A: Bruce is talking rubbish, Bruce always talks rubbish. My cover to the album in question is on my website, it is the only Dickinson cover there.
Go and decide for yourselves if it is a propper cover. Bruce gave me a brief to do a picture of the puppet "Eddison". He wanted the picture to be
a take on the painting called "The Scream" by Edvard Munch. I suggested that he could have blades in his hands cutting himself. This was agreed and I did the painting which is now on my site. After the picture was finished Bruce wouldn't return my phone calls and when I finally got hold of him he said "well I thought you were going to put lot of blood and gore and chainsaws all over it". So I asked him what he thought he was playing at and called him a prat and then he refused to pay me for two months, I was just going to feed him to my lawers when Maiden's manager Rod Smallwood intervened and told Bruce to pay me. What Bruce did was to change the brief for the picture after the picture was finished and
without telling anyone. You just can't do that without paying for it, when you comission a
picture that is a contract and you have to stick by it wether you decide to use it later or not.
Q: Please let me know about the cover of "Brave New World", it is mentioned another guy's name in the credits for the cover painting. How is it
possible to work with another painter???
A: I didn't work with another painter. The band had some very weak ideas for a single cover for "The Wickerman". Some of those paintings too are on my website, the face of Eddie in the clouds is the only part of the "Brave New World" cover which I did and this was taken from a face in the clouds on one of the Wickerman pictures. They took it off and plopped it onto a picture by someone else and then put my name on the cover to make the fans think it was my artwork... but it wasn't. And I won't be working with Maiden again. I would rather work with people who actually care about my paintings.
Q. You didn't paint the covers for some of Iron Maiden's later albums, why was that?
A. Firstly I got a bit fed up with painting Eddie, secondly Maiden became more and more difficult to work for, they started wanting to see half finished artworks and began criticizing things that weren't finished anyway. They started fussing endlessly over little details that didn't matter, usually to the detrement of the overall painting. They never had any clear idea of what they wanted but they were very eager to tell me what they didn't want, which is no help at all when you are expected to produce an artwork to a deadline. They just wouln't leave me alone to do what I know how to do. They even began to blame me for their own lack of ideas and direction, I thought this was odd because about 70% to 80 % of the ideas on the covers which I painted were my ideas and not their's, ( because they didn't have an idea for a cover ) the rest were based very loosely on their brief, usually a bad or uninteresting idea for which I was expected to "take up the slack" and somehow make it interesting. sometimes I would attend a business meeting where they would say to other people that all of the ideas on their covers were all theirs and I was just the guy who painted them. Whereas in fact most of the time they really didn't have any idea what it was that I was painting. All of this and a hoast of little broken promises ( financial and other things ) make working for Iron Maiden a very painful experience for me. It seems that after fifteen years of painting them the best album covers in the world, and breaking all existing worlwide records for merchandise sales they not longer trusted me to know how to make good pictures, I find all this rather insulting.
Q. There is a rumour that you will not be painting any more Iron Maiden covers, is this true?
A. To be honest, I can't think of a good reason to put myself through all that pain and grief again, the money they pay really isn't worth the discomfort and also I am a bit sick of all the bullshit. There has been too much water under that bridge and too many broken promises.
Q. is this all just sour grapes?
A. I have come across this question a couple of times and frankly I think it's a bit purile. The bottom line is that I am stopping the work I do for Maiden because I want to stop, so how could I possibly have any "sour grapes". I have been bored doing that style of work for a while I am actually glad it's over. Now I can get on and do different things.
