Egy újságcikkben felvetették, hogy a britek legfeljebb akkor szerepelnének jól az Eurovíziós dalfesztiválon, ha mondjuk olyan előadó képviselné őket, mint Katie Melua. Az Eurovíziós Dalfesztivál szakmai értékét persze sokan vitatják. Katie Meluát pár éve az Eurovíziós Dalfesztivál kapcsán egy újságíró megkérdezte, hogy mit tenne, ha eredeti hazája, Grúzia felkérné, hogy induljon el a képviseletében ezen a fesztiválon. Hiszen többször nyilatkozta, hogy bár brit állampolgár, és valószínűleg mindig is Londonban fog élni, de majd annak idején Grúzia földjében szeretne nyugodni. Katie válasza: "Megkérdezném, hogy ugratnak-e. Hiszen a kettő nyilvánvalóan nem ugyanaz: az eredeti hazámban elföldeltetni, vagy pedig általa..." :)
At the airport, about to get on a flight to San Francisco. I’ve been in LA for the last week, had a gig two nights ago and a showcase last night. It all went well but after my performance things got a bit crazy. Two women that no one recognised, - being an invited only event- had a huge fight, glasses were thrown, wigs were pulled and blood was running from jaws.
Now I have this theory that they were professional gate crashers and they stumbled on each other’s gigs, started defending their territory and went crazy. If you are one of the said two women, would love to know who you were? And hope you’re alive!
Jet lag is still beating me. But I’m going on interesting journey’s by reading Decreation by Anne Carson. Here is an extract from a poem I read at my gig by Elizabeth Bishop, it’s called the Man Moth and this is what Anne Carson has written about it: “The man moth is a creature who lives most of the time underground, but pays occasional visits to the surface of the earth, where he attempts to scale the faces of the building and reach the moon, for he understand the moon to be a whole at the top of the sky from which he can escape. Failing to attain the moon each time he falls back to the pale subways of his underground existence”

Up the facades his shadow dragging like a photographer’s cloth behind him, he climbs fearfully, thinking that this time he will manage to push his small head through that round clean opening and be forced through, as from a tube, in black scrolls on the light. Two old biddies disrupt Katie Melua concert with glass fight in LA!
If you want to get an idea of the sort of people going and see the Radio 2-friendly sounds of Katie Melua, then this story is a pretty good illustration.
As British-Georgian singer Katie launched her new album, 'Pictures', at the Montage Hotel in Los Angeles, trouble erupted with two fans at the front vying for position. But it soon became clear that these weren't the usual sort of troublemakers - they were two little old ladies.
Not only was one wig pulled off, but the wig-puller-offer then got cut by a broken glass!
A witness said: "It was unbelievable.
"Everything was very calm and low-key and then all of a sudden it kicked off at the front. When the crowds parted, you could see there were two old ladies tearing strips off each other.
"Katie just looked on in absolute horror until they were pulled apart.
"I don’t think anyone really knew what to do."
Speaking after the gig was finally completed, the singer said: "I can imagine that sort of thing happening at the back of a rock concert.
"But who would have thought it from two old ladies at one of my gigs!" "
Katie tehát május 2-án San Diego-ban megkezdte az észak-amerikai klub-turnét, csak ő egyedül, egy akusztikus és egy elektromos gitár, meg egy Yamaha keyboard (vagy ahol van zongora vagy pianínó, ott az). Vasárnap Los Angelesben két fellépése volt (Amoeba Music Store és a Hotel Cafe), hétfőn egy fellépés a Pictures album US megjelenése alkalmából (ez alkalomból ott két idősebb hölgy komolyan összeverekedett, szóal botrány volt), 5-én kedden pedig San Francisco (Katie és Mike kétórás késéssel éppen most szálltak le ott, a koncert nemsokára kezdődik a Great American Music Hall-ban).
Közben Mike Batt megérkezett Los Angelesbe, és ott lesz Katie mai fellépésén az Amoeba Records-nál. Egyelőre nem úgy néz ki, hogy Katie-t sikerülne betenni valamelyik nagy beszélgetős tévéshow-ba, így aztán az akusztikus turné biztosan szép élmény lesz mindenkinek, aki ott lesz, de a Pictures albumot nem igazán sikerül promotálni az USA-ban. Ha a rádiók nem játszák a dalokat, és az emberek a tévéből nem ismerik meg Katie Melua-t, amerika továbbra is meghódítatlan terület marad. Mondom, ha... :)
Katie holnapután kezdi az észak-amerikai koncertkörútját, először szombaton egy fellépés San Diego-ban, azután vasárnap kettő Los Angeles-ben. Mike Batt most érkezett meg New York-ba, nem tudom, ez összefügg-e Katie turnéjával, vagy ő egészen más ügyben jár arrafelé. Katie a negyedik albumát T-Bone Burnett producerrel (aki mellesleg Oscar díjra jelölt dalszszerző is /Cold Mountain, Hideghegy/) készíti. Lehet, hogy ezt azt jelenti, hogy ezt a negyedik albumot teljes egészében Los Angelesben készíti el? Mindenesetre az új, negyvenezer fontos kis "házistúdiója" Londonban, a Notting Hill-i lakásában (amelynek a fürdőszobájában tartja kifüggesztve a Guinness világrekordért járó bekeretezett oklevelet :) ) lehetővé teszi, hogy ott is bármikor, akár az éjszaka közepén is rögzítsen dalokat, ha éppen úgy adódik.
A pandémia megérkezett Kaliforniába. Remélem Katie vigyáz magára. Azért ez egy durva év lesz, ha a gazdasági világválság mellé megérkezik a mexikói influenza is, mint világjárvány. A távol-keletről várták, erre most tessék...
Katie április 5-én újra az USA-ba repült, hogy szövegírókkal és az új producerével az új, 2010-ben megjelenő negyedik albumán dolgozzon. A producer nevét még nem jelentették be.
