Mariano Rivera earned his 300th career save Friday night, becoming the first Yankee and the 18th pitcher in history to reach the milestone. He is the fourth pitcher to get 300 with one team, joining Trevor Hoffman, Dennis Eckersley and Jeff Montgomery.
Wednesday in St. Louis, the Pirates slugger helped make Major League history. With his 4-for-5 night 11-8 win over the Cardinals, Ward joined his father, Gary, as the first father and son combination to hit for the cycle in the big leagues. Gary hit for the cycle on Sept. 18, 1980 for the Twins.

The win was the 1,700th of Torre's career, making him just the 13th manager in Major League history to reach that mark.
