LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Kobe Bryant, who chipped a tooth late in regulation, scored 45 points Friday night as the Los Angeles Lakers snapped a four-game losing streak with a 96-89 overtime victory over the San Francisco Warriors.
Robert Horry had seven of his nine points and Bryant added four in overtime for the Lakers, still without Shaquille O'Neal. The Warriors went the final 4:09 with a field goal.
The victory kept coach Phil Jackson from losing five in a row for the first time since 1994, and also kept the three-time defending NBA champions out of the Pacific Division cellar.
Golden State's Jason Richardson hit a 3-pointer with 4.2 seconds remaining to tie it 85-all in regulation. After Gilbert Arenas' 3-point try bounced off the rim, Antawn Jamison rebounded and quickly fed Jamison, who stepped behind the line on the left side and made the pressure shot.
As the Lakers inbounded the ball after a timeout, Bryant collided face-to-face with Jamison, with Jamison's forehead banging Bryant in the mouth. Both players went down and the pass bounced out of bounds.
Bryant, passing less and shooting more since his teammate haven't been hitting shots during the losing streak, was 18-of-40 from the field. The only other Los Angeles scorer in double figures was Samaki Walker with 12 points and 14 rebounds.
Jamison led the Warriors with 25 points and 10 rebounds, and Erick Dampier had 19 points and 16 rebounds. Troy Murphy added 14 points and 13 rebounds.
O'Neal said earlier this week that he will probably play his first game of the season Nov. 22 at home against Chicago. He had surgery on his right big toe on Sept. 11 and has been slowly working his way back.
The Lakers also were without Devean George, sidelined by an ankle sprain; Mark Madsen, on the injured list with a strained left hamstring; and Soumalia Samake, who served the second game of a five-game suspension for violating the league's steroids policy.
The Warriors, who had trailed since the opening minute, took their first lead at 54-53 on Richardson's running 15-footer four minutes into the third quarter. Stanislav Medvedenko's jumper with 2.3 seconds left in the period provided Los Angeles a 67-65 edge to start the fourth quarter.
Bryant had 24 points by halftime for Los Angeles, which held a 40-25 lead with 4:38 remaining in the second quarter. The Warriors, however, whittled the deficit down to 44-40 by halftime.
Notes: The Warriors are 1-6 on the road. ... The Lakers' George is day-to-day with his sprained right ankle, but he likely will miss Sunday's contest against Houston. ... Lakers coach Phil Jackson said going deep into the postseason can take a toll on players that carries over. Talking about his team's myriad injuries early this season, he said, "This is par for the course when you play for championships, play late in the season, it creates wear and tear on players." ... If Jackson's worried about the Lakers' slow start this season, he's certainly hiding it well. "I've always predicted slow starts," he said. "It's not a problem."

Hawks Add to Lakers' Woes
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 12 (Ticker) -- Phil Jackson's Los Angeles Lakers are in an unfamiliar territory.
Kobe Bryant scored 21 points but made just 8-of-27 shots as the Lakers fell to the Atlanta Hawks, 95-83, for their first four-game losing streak under Jackson.

The Lakers' last four-game slide occurred from April 9-15, 1995. They have won three straight NBA Championships under Jackson, who had not dropped four in a row since 1994-95 as coach of the Chicago Bulls.
"Nobody really knows what to do in this situation because we are not used to losing at this place," said Lakers guard Brian Shaw, who scored 12 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter and made 5-of-6 3-pointers. "I think we just have to get back to basics."
Los Angeles has started a season with six losses in its first eight games for the first time since 1966-67.
"Initially, before I came (to the locker room) I was furious I wanted to kick someone in the butt," said Bryant, who failed to score in the fourth quarter. "I went in the trainer's room and Jim Cotta (Lakers strength and conditioning coach) is holding his little daughter. I don't know how old she is, but she's the cutest thing in the world. It just put things in perspective.
"I swear to God. I'm not even upset. Truth of the matter is we're playing bad. We need to make shots that are very makeable shots. We're not making them. Some guys need to find their jump shot. And they will. They'll come around. But what doesn't break you makes you stronger."
Los Angeles continued to play without three-time NBA Finals MVP Shaquille O'Neal, whose return from offseason toe surgery was postponed. The Lakers are hoping to have O'Neal back Friday against Golden State.
"We are not doing anything right, not shooting the ball, executing our offense," Shaw said. "Defensively, we are not helping each other out like we should, especially in the absence of Shaq. We are finding out how difficult it is with him not in there because he attracts so much attention."
Lakers forward Devean George also sat out with two sprained ankles after starting the first seven games. Earlier Tuesday, reserve center Soumaile Samake was suspended five games for violating the NBA's steroids policy, but forward Rick Fox returned from a six-game suspension and had 12 points and eight rebounds in his first start of the season.
"I think in the start of the season you have great experience of things happening, especially coming off a championship," Fox said. "With a feeling we are going to do this again, still we have to understand this is a long road, and right now we are dealing with things that other teams deal with over the course of the season such as injuries and absent players, suspensions and things like that."
Shareef Abdur-Rahim collected 26 points and 10 rebounds and Jason Terry scored 21 points for the Hawks, who snapped a three-game losing streak and finished a 2-3 road trip.
"Obviously, with the big fella being out, we felt like we had a big advantage inside and we tried to show that," said Abdur-Rahim, who had 20 points in the first half. "A lot of things came from that. I was able to score early. They were doubling, trying to get the ball out of my hands, and other guys stepped up and made shots and made plays."
Atlanta maintained a double-digit lead for most of the third quarter, but the Lakers pulled within 77-75 with 6:12 left in the fourth on a 3-pointer by Shaw.
The Hawks answered with a 9-2 run to put away Los Angeles.
Atlanta, which last trailed 34-33 with 4:29 left in the second quarter, scored the first 12 points of the third to build their biggest lead, 57-40, with 9:53 remaining.
"That was huge," Terry said. "Coming in at halftime, we felt we were kind of just playing with them, falling into that lull. We knew we had to reassert ourselves in the third and make it tough on them to comeback, and we did."
Robinson contributed 14 points and 12 rebounds, Ira Newble also scored 14 points and Theo Ratliff grabbed 11 rebounds as the Hawks shot 43 percent (32-of-74) from the field and owned a 55-47 edge on the glass.
"Kobe's a great player, but they're hurting without Shaq," Newble said. "He's an All-Star and I don't think they can win too many games without Shaq. But with him and Kobe together, of course they're a great team. And they have a good supporting cast. But when the supporting cast doesn't step up for Kobe, he can't carry the load by himself."
Stanislav Medvedenko chipped in 10 points off the bench for the Lakers, who shot 34 percent (32-of-94).
"Wow, we were really pathetic out there," Jackson said. "We just didn't have the rhythm out there. Lots of opportunities, turnovers were limited, but the effort was good. We will get the game back in order and have a chance to win."

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Jerry Stackhouse had no problem counting to 2.9. His dunk at the buzzer left the Los Angeles Lakers counting to three, as in three straight losses.
Throwing and inbounds pass with 2.9 seconds left, Stackhouse got it back on a give-and-go with Byron Russell. With Michael Jordan as a decoy, Stackhouse found an open path to the basket and arrived just in time to give the Washington Wizards a 100-99 victory Friday night.
"Two-point-nine seconds is a lot of time," Stackhouse said. "I felt like I had time to get there. If I saw somebody under there I might have pulled up, but nobody was there."
Stackhouse scored 29 points, stealing the show from Jordan and Kobe Bryant. Jordan scored a season-high 25 points and played well for 31/2 quarters, but he made a bad foul with 25 seconds left and missed two free throws in the final 20 seconds.
"I missed some easy free throws," said Jordan, who played 30 minutes and shot 9-of-14. "Obviously, you never want to be in a position where you have a chance to help the team and you don't help them."
Yet, Jordan was a key player on the game-winning play. He took his defender to the weakside, keeping the Lakers from collapsing on the basket to stop Stackhouse.
"Everybody was looking at me as if I was an option," Jordan said "I was more or less a decoy."
Stackhouse's dunk was reviewed by officials under the NBA's new instant replay rule. The tape showed Stackhouse made the dunk two-tenths of a second before the buzzer.
Bryant struggled until the homestretch, but his block of Jordan's baseline jump shot helped spur a 10-0 run as the Lakers overcame a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit. Bryant, following Thursday's 17-for-47 performance in an overtime loss at Boston, was 8-for-21 from the field and 11-for-11 from the free-throw line and finished with 27 points. He played on a sore shin, which got kicked in the Celtics game.
Bryant is 30-for-81 from the field during the three-game skid.
The Lakers got a boost from Rick Fox, who returned from a six-game suspension for a fight in the preseason to score 20 points in a reserve role in his first regular-season action. But Shaquille O'Neal is still out with a toe injury, and said before the game that he needs another "one or two weeks" to recover from the surgery he had in September.
"I'm not pleased with the way we're playing," Los Angeles coach Phil Jackson said. "There's a limitation to how well we can play without Shaquille, and the people understand that.
"I was downplaying when I said we might start 0-7, 1-6 or 2-5. But here we are 2-5, and it's not a surprise to me. I know the talent this team has. We have a great player in Kobe, and we have a team that fits together with Shaquille, so it's built around that. Without him out there, we're kind of batting away without a hope to hit too many home runs."
Stackhouse's game-winner came after the Lakers took their only lead of the game, 99-98, when Robert Horry made a 3-pointer at the 2.9-second mark.
Although they were rarely matched up most of the game, Jordan and Bryant went toe-to-toe down the stretch. Bryant moved by Jordan for a running one-hander that capped a run that put the Lakers within two at 88-86 with 3:44 to play.
In the second quarter, Jordan aggressively backed Bryant with the dribble before hitting a fadeaway 18-footer, part of an 8-2 run that closed the half and put the Wizards ahead 49-40.
The Lakers pulled within four twice in the third quarter, but Stackhouse literally flung the ball in the basket from 18 feet at the third-quarter buzzer, bringing the fans to their feet and giving the Wizards a 74-60 lead.
Then, they survived the Lakers' rally in the fourth.
"The team last year would have folded down the stretch," Jordan said. "This year, we stood tall."
Notes: Russell got three stitches at halftime to repair a cut on the bridge of his nose. ... The Wizards broke a four-game losing streak to the Lakers. ... Jordan scored a career-low two points against the Lakers in the last game he played last season. "I know his revenge and his payback time," Jackson said. BOSTON, Nov. 7 (Ticker) -- Kobe Bryant made the most baskets. Paul Pierce made the most important one.
Pierce snapped a tie with a 3-pointer late in overtime and Bryant missed a tying shot from the arc as the Boston Celtics edged the Los Angeles Lakers, 98-95, in a game with playoff intensity.

After Bryant made it 96-95 with a jumper with 58 seconds left, Tony Delk sank a pair of free throws with 9.3 seconds to play. But after a timeout by the Lakers, Bryant rimmed out a 3-pointer and Boston came away with the win.

"I told Paul it was just like the old days ... Larry (Bird) and Magic (Johnson)," Bryant said. "It was just one of those battles. We were down 17, fought back, game went into overtime. It was a game of peaks and valleys, and it felt good to be a part of that. That leprechaun is still walking around those rafters, I guess."
Bryant made just 17-of-47 shots, missing all eight of his 3-point attempts, but scored 18 of his 41 points in the third quarter. He helped the Lakers erase a 15-point halftime deficit and take a 71-67 lead into the final 12 minutes.
"You got to make it tough on him," said Pierce, who largely guarded Bryant. "You can't let him go out and get an easy 41. He got 41 tonight, but I thought it was a tough 41. I mean, he took 47 shots."
It was the third-most shots attempted by a Laker and the most since Elgin Baylor's franchise-record 55 against Philadelphia on December 2, 1961.
"Tonight it was really out of necessity," Bryant said. "We were down 15 points. I think a lot of my teammates were discouraged and looking for direction to put the ball in the hole because we weren't really shooting the ball well. It was my job to come out and instill confidence in everybody else that we can come back and we can make shots and we can win the game."
"That's a lot of shots," Delk said. "I'm trying to go back to my career in high school when I averaged 40 points and I don't think I ever took that many shots. That's a lot of attempts."
With the game tied, 89-89, Bryant hit the side of the backboard with a jumper while falling out of bounds with 18 seconds left in regulation. Robert Horry blocked a fadeaway by Pierce with less than a second remaining, but the ball went out of bounds, giving Boston another chance.
Antoine Walker also hit the side of the backboard with a jumper at the buzzer.
Pierce had 28 points and Delk 26 for Boston, which joined lowly Chicago as the only teams to sweep the NBA champion Lakers last season.
Boston shot 43 percent (37-of-86) but made 41 percent of its 3-point attempts (13-of-32). Los Angeles clicked at 39 percent overall (37-of-95) but was an abysmal 14 percent from the arc (3-of-22).
"Sweet battle, great game," Celtics coach Jim O'Brien said. "I thought we played absolutely exceptional defense. I thought Paul did a great job on (Bryant), an absolutely fantastic job even with five fouls. Made him work for every shot. Some of the shots he was taking were just brilliant shots, great shots with Paul draped all over him."
Bryant was just 1-of-8 and scored three points in the first quarter as the Celtics jumped out to a 26-15 advantage. They took their biggest lead, 46-29, on a 3-pointer by Pierce with 26 seconds to play before halftime.
But Boston could not contain Bryant in the third quarter, when he made 8-of-13 shots, the Lakers sank 73 percent of their attempts (16-of-22) and limited the Celtics to 32 percent (8-of-25) to take a four-point lead.
"Somebody had to step in there and do something," Lakers coach Phil Jackson said. "Brian Shaw was the only other person on the team who was aggressive offensively. Kobe shot poorly the first half and then he came back and found a way to keep us competitive.
"We played some good defense and changed the game around. We probably should have won."
The Lakers again were without Shaquille O'Neal (toe surgery) and Rick Fox, who served the final contest of a six-game suspension for fighting Sacramento's Doug Christie in the preseason.
Los Angeles was coming off Tuesday's 89-70 loss at Cleveland in which it was held to its fewest points since the advent of the shot clock in 1954.

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Darius Miles couldn't help himself. Caught up in the euphoria of a home-opening win over the Lakers, one of the newest Cavaliers spoke his mind.
"We're going to put on a show every night," Miles told the Gund Arena crowd. "We're going to surprise the world."
Well, they've already stunned the Lakers.
Zydrunas Ilgauskas scored 23 points for Cleveland in an 89-70 victory over the Shaq-less Lakers, whose point total was the franchise's lowest since moving to Los Angeles in 1960.
The Lakers scored just 10 points in the fourth quarter.
Ricky Davis added 24 points and Tyrone Hill had 17 rebounds for the Cavs, who dazzled a crowd of 19,833 -- including high school phenom LeBron James -- by blowing out the three-time defending NBA champions.
"I love proving people wrong," said Miles, who had 13 points in his home debut. "They say we're the 29th team in the league? Maybe we'll just go out and make the playoffs."
With Shaquille O'Neal missing his fifth game while recovering from off-season foot surgery, the Lakers had no inside game and only Kobe Bryant as an offensive threat.
Bryant finished with 15 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists in 40 minutes, and just missed becoming the first player since Grant Hill in 1997 to have three straight triple-doubles.
"We didn't hit shots and fell in love with the outside shot too much and they didn't fall," Bryant said.
Previously, the fewest points the Lakers had ever scored in a game since moving from Minneapolis was 74. Los Angeles shot just 32 percent, including 4-of-20 on 3-pointers. In the fourth, the Lakers went just 5-of-22.
"We got good shots but we didn't knock them down," said Robert Horry. "Tonight, everybody shot it bad, everybody."
After Davis' reverse dunk put Cleveland up by 20 with 3:30 left, fans began chanting, "Beat, L.A." and saluted the Cavs with several standing ovations.
It was an ideal start at home for the young Cavs, who are coming off three straight 50-loss seasons and aren't expected to be much better this season.
"It was a good win," Miles said. "But they didn't have Shaq. Shaq is 30 points. Shaq is 20 rebounds. Shaq is five blocks. He'll be back when we go to Los Angeles (Jan. 10). He told me he owes me one."
The 7-foot-3 Ilgauskas, whose career has been sidetracked by foot injuries, showed why if he stays healthy he could be the Eastern Conference's top center.
Ilgauskas showed an assortment of power moves underneath and a soft touch from the outside while working against Samaki Walker and Soumaila Samake.
And as the Cavs' big man dominated, the Lakers' big man sat helplessly on the bench with his arms crossed.
Davis' three-point play and a 3-pointer by Bimbo Coles helped the Cavs open a 73-60 lead with 11:03 left, and as the Lakers misfired, Cleveland built its lead to 82-64 with 5:54 remaining on Ilgauskas' final basket.
The Cavs are carefully monitoring his minutes, and coach John Lucas pulled Ilgauskas with 4:53 to play and Cleveland comfortably ahead 88-66.
"If Zydrunas can continue to improve, we have a chance in the Eastern Conference because of his size," Lucas said.
Miles fed Davis for a one-handed, alley-oop dunk to key a 10-2 run that built Cleveland's lead to 61-51 in the third quarter and got Cavs fans as pumped up as they've been in four years.
"We're playing the game and selling tickets," Miles said.
Notes: O'Neal is eligible to be activated for Thursday night's game in Boston, but it's unlikely he will make his debut until next Tuesday in Atlanta. ... Bryant reiterated his desire to play on the U.S. Olympic team in the 2004 Athens Games. He's also trying to talk O'Neal into joining him on the American squad. "He said, 'If you do it, I'll do it'," Bryant said. ... Cavs rookie guard Dajuan Wagner has gained back half of the 15 pounds he lost while hospitalized with a bladder infection. The first-round pick began practicing Monday and will travel with the club to Philadelphia and Washington this week. He was disappointed at missing the home opener. "This is my dream," he said. "I just want to play."

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 3 (Ticker) -- No one was stopping Kobe Bryant, including the self-proclaimed "Kobe-stopper."
Bryant had his second straight triple-double, led a fourth-quarter comeback and had a tough clutch basket in overtime to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a 98-95 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers.

Bryant had 33 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists for his fifth career triple-double. He helped the Lakers erase an eight-point deficit in the fourth quarter as he scored 15 points, most of them against Ruben Patterson.
"He had an unbelievable game," Portland coach Maurice Cheeks said. "I thought Ruben guarded him pretty good, but he made some tough shots."

Patterson spent his 1998-99 rookie season with the Lakers and often guarded Bryant in practice. He left the following season and began calling himself the "Kobe-stopper."
Facing Patterson's hounding defense, Bryant had a jumper, two free throws, a tip-in and two more foul shots in the final four minutes of regulation, giving Los Angeles an 85-83 lead with 4.5 seconds remaining.
"I was just telling him, `You're making some incredible shots on me' because I played great defense," Patterson said. "He's really improved on his jump shot. When I first got into the league, Kobe liked to get to the basket and get fouled, but he hit some tough shots on me."
Derek Anderson's jumper at the buzzer forced overtime, and he kept Portland close in the extra session. His three-point play made it 94-93 with 1:48 to go.
But on the next possession, Bryant spun away from Patterson, hung in the air, took a bump from forward Dale Davis and banked in a shot with 1:27 left.
Anderson made two free throws, but misfired on a 3-pointer. Devean George made two free throws for a 98-95 lead with 16 seconds remaining, and Bryant rebounded Scottie Pippen's missed 3-pointer as the clock ran out.
With Shaquille O'Neal (toe injury) and Rick Fox (suspension) sidelined, Bryant tried to carry the offense and took some criticism as the Lakers lost their first two games, including one at Portland. But he has been spectacular in leading them to two wins.
"As I said in the beginning of the season, my whole focus is to make my teammates better. My offense is going to come, whether I score 30 points or 14 points," Bryant said. "But it's really about getting my teammates involved and making them better players all season."
"I remember watching an interview with Charles Barkley and he said you get to a point in your career where the game slows down," Lakers guard Brian Shaw said. "I think that's where it is for Kobe. I think right now, he can pinpoint exactly what he wants to do. He's not rushed or hurried."
Bryant is the first Laker with consecutive triple-doubles since Magic Johnson on March 25-29, 1991.
"That's great company to be mentioned with the Magic Man," Bryant said. "I don't even know what to say to that."
"It's just that he's doing it so easily," Lakers guard Derek Fisher said. "He's making everybody else better and giving him the opportunity to make himself better." George scored a career-high 25 points and Shaw added 14 for the Lakers, who completed a Staples Center Sunday sweep. The co-tenant Clippers defeated Detroit on Sunday afternoon.
"They have guys who know how to step in and play under any circumstances," Cheeks said. "They know how to not give up, go in and win ballgames. That's why they're three-time defending champions."
Anderson scored 24 points and Rasheed Wallace and Damon Stoudamire added 16 apiece for the Trail Blazers, who have lost three in a row since beating the Lakers on Wednesday. Last season, Portland got off to a 13-18 start.
Patterson scored nine of his 15 points in the fourth quarter as he dueled Bryant. He was beaten to a rebound off a missed free throw by Bryant, but later answered with a baseline jumper. Bryant drilled a 3-pointer over Patterson, who drove for a layup and a 73-67 lead midway through the period.
Bryant made a jumper, but Stoudamire scored off an inbounds pass and Patterson had a steal and dunk for a 77-69 bulge with 5:10 left before the Lakers rallied.
Two free throws by Bryant and a jumper by Robert Horry made it 80-77 with 1:41 to go. Wallace sank a free throw, but George drove for a hoop and Bryant found Shaw for a jumper that tied it with 54 seconds remaining.
"I think we've grown," Bryant said. "We could have easily laid down. We were down by six points with a couple minutes to go. ... Momentum was not in our favor."
George had two baskets to start overtime and Shaw made a 3-pointer for a 92-85 lead with 3:13 left. Patterson spun for a layup before Anderson had a 3-pointer and his three-point play around a layup by Shaw, making it a one-point game.
The Blazers shot 45.5 percent (35-of-77) and held the Lakers to 42 percent (36-of-85) but were outrebounded, 44-36.

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Kobe Bryant had plenty of motivation on the way to his fourth career triple-double.
"My motivation was, one, to win the game. You never want to drop three straight," Bryant said after getting 33 points, a career-high 15 rebounds and 12 assists Friday night in a 108-93 win over the Los Angeles Clippers.
He only alluded to the second part of his motivation, an ESPN.com report in which assistant coach Tex Winter was quoted as calling Bryant "out of control, selfish, stubborn and uncoachable" when Shaquille O'Neal is sidelined. The comments purportedly came after Bryant went 9-of-29 in an opening night loss to San Antonio.
"I'm not going to get into the guy's name. I don't even think it's worth me repeating the guy's name," Bryant said, referring to the writer of the article. "But you guys know the story.
"This is the style of basketball that I want to play all season long -- to get my teammates involved and play unselfish basketball."
Teammate Brian Shaw said he didn't think Bryant wasn't trying to prove anything.
"I just think he was playing the same game that he's been playing. Contrary to what everybody else has been saying, he's been really looking to set his teammates up more than ever before," Shaw said.
Lakers coach Phil Jackson said he hadn't seen the story, but described the relationship between Winter, the triangle offense guru, and Bryant as one that "bounces along at times. Tex is very outspoken in what he thinks, speaking as the voice of basketball reason, as far as he sees it."
Jackson said he sometimes tells Winter, "`You might not want to say anything to these guys right now because they're coming back pretty fired up about what's happened on the court.' But he's been really supportive, in fact.
"In the year in which Kobe and I had a real struggle in certain situations regarding how to be a team player and a team leader through unselfish play, Tex was always his strongest defender. I think Kobe knows that, and he's got a great relationship with him because of it."
Bryant took charge while O'Neal again watched in street clothes as the three-time defending NBA champions won for the first time in three games this season, all played without the recuperating O'Neal and the suspended Rick Fox.
Devean George, starting in Fox's spot, had 13 points and Samaki Walker, filling in for O'Neal at center, had 11 points and nine rebounds.
Andre Miller had 22 points and 11 assists for the Clippers, off to an 0-2 start after losing their season opener to Cleveland two nights earlier. Elton Brand and Corey Maggette added 19 points each.
Brand, who missed all of training camp as he recuperated from arthroscopic knee surgery, said an 0-2 start "is not the end of the world. We have seven or eight guys that didn't play a lick in the preseason."
"We're going to make a run similar to last year. We were 0-3 and wound up vying for a playoff spot," Brand said.
The Lakers led by as many as 23 points in the second quarter, but the Clippers came back to narrow the gap to 74-67 with four minutes left in the third quarter before the Lakers began to pull away again. They were ahead 85-73 heading into the fourth quarter and the Clippers got no closer than nine points afterward.
O'Neal, who had surgery in September on his arthritic right big toe, went through a light scrimmage for about five minutes on Thursday but a date hasn't been set for his return to the lineup.
Fox is midway through a six-game suspension for fighting with Sacramento's Doug Christie during the final preseason game.
Notes: The previous rebound high for Bryant, who's beginning his seventh NBA season, was 14. His last triple-double was 23 points, 11 rebounds and 15 assists against Washington last Feb. 12. ... The Lakers have started 0-3 just three times, in 1957, 1960 and 1979 -- the season before they got Magic Johnson. ... The Lakers are 116-38 all-time against the Clippers, who moved to Los Angeles in 1984 from San Diego. ... Although no date has been set for O'Neal's return, if he has no setbacks in his recovery, Nov. 12 at home against Atlanta would seem a likely time. The Lakers have three days off before that game after playing a stretch of five games in eight days.
